A National Yoga Alliance registered School, Aum hOMe Shala offers a year-round 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) to develop and provide programs that reach underserved populations through public schools, after-school programs, universities, and hospitals. Celebrating its sixth year, The Shala's YTT curriculum focuses on providing yoga to a wide range of people, from students to the disabled, by incorporating modifications that help make yoga accessible to all. AUM hOMe Shala has pioneered the use of yoga in a six-year pilot program called Chill OUT. Initiated by the national organization Do the Right Thing and the City of Miami Police Department, Chill OUT targets approximately 200 metropolitan school-age youths preparing for the Florida Comprehensive Aptitude Test (FCAT). Schools served to date include Eneida Hartner Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Miami-Edison Middle School, West Miami Middle School, Miami-Edison Senior High, and Miami-Jackson Senior High.
Yoga therapy adapts and integrates traditional Yogic techniques with Western medical knowledge to create a modern day Holistic approach to individual health care. Preventative and restorative in nature, studies show that Yoga Therapy is particularly effective in treating many chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment. With a goal of optimum health, a Yoga therapist focuses on the physical, psychological, and spiritual level of the individual and prescribes specific protocols for persistent health challenges.
