Course Outline and Schedule

In Module B, we explore the therapeutic benefits of yoga for the circulatory, digestive, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, and reproductive systems, and also look closely at the mind/body connection. Graduates are equipped to teach in a wide variety of settings, with diverse populations, and alongside health-care professionals in clinical or other venues.

Students meet approximately* 10 times throughout the course, typically on weekends, with the exception of one 4-day retreat seminar. Each class includes lectures, partner work, and practical experience. Content is provided in lecture format and includes relevant anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Case presentations will be used to apply the information.

The practical component of the curriculum includes evaluations of self and other participants using observation, interview, and questionnaires. Students are required to complete a research paper that provides an in-depth assessment of one aspect of a specific condition that would benefit from the application of yoga. The course includes a mentoring component, with a total of six hours of mentoring required (in person, or via Skype or telephone); payment is made directly to the mentor. Students are required to take a multiple-choice test before and after completion of the course.

The two modules may be taken concurrently, or in either order. Each module offers a minimum of 75 contact hours. Students have up to a year to complete each module. Teachers who successfully complete both modules are eligible to apply for Yoga Alliance certification at the 300-hour level, or at the 500-hour level if they hold a 200-hour yoga teacher certification from the Shala. Graduates are also eligible to enter our Clinical Yoga Therapy Practicum, accredited by the Accreditation Committee of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. For more information, visit www.iayt.org.

Please note: The yoga therapy components of our course are based on IAYT accreditation, not derived from our status as an RYS® with Yoga Alliance Registry.
