This weekend workshop is designed to help participants understand how to breathe more efficiently and effectively and explore the transformative effects of changing one’s breathing patterns. The course covers the anatomy and mechanics of the respiratory system and offers practical yoga exercises to enhance respiratory function and improve the overall quality of life.
For yoga teachers, this specialty certification program provides tools to support patients from diagnosis through treatment and post-treatment in hospital settings. It deepens their understanding of the principles and practices of yoga as they apply to the respiratory system. Participants will learn to analyze the breath through the lens of yoga, practice chair yoga for respiratory conditions, blend Western and Eastern approaches to respiratory health, and work effectively in hospital and clinic environments.

Cancellation and enrollment policy: If you cancel 3 weeks prior to the program, you will receive a full refund minus a $100 nonrefundable processing fee and a $150 course material charge in the event that you have accessed the online curriculum. If you cancel between 3 weeks and 1 week prior to the program, you will receive a refund of half the tuition, minus the $100 non-refundable processing fee and a $150 course material charge in the event that you have accessed the online curriculum. Cancellations less than 1 week prior to the program are nonrefundable. AUM hOMe Shala reserves the right to deny enrollment due to space limitations or any other concerns. If AUM hOMe Shala cancels a course due to under-enrollment, students will be advised within 24–48 hours and promptly refunded.
Melinda Atkins, M.ED, MSc., C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, RYPT, YACEP, is the founding director of AUM hOMe Shala, a 501(c)(3) non-profit and internationally accredited yoga therapy school. A graduate of the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy program, she blends science, education, and compassion to expand access to therapeutic yoga for all ages. Among the first in Florida certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), Melinda has over 40,000 teaching hours and serves on the IAYT Accreditation Review Committee. She has developed yoga therapy programs for both adults and children, including specialized classes for autism, ADHD, and emotional regulation. A contributing author to Yoga Therapy Foundations, Tools, and Practice, she continues to design and write grants for community-based yoga therapy programs supporting Parkinson’s and other neuro-motor conditions.
Adam Flores, CCPA , C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP, has advanced training in Yoga Therapy for Mental Health and is the CEO and Director of Yoga Therapy at Healing Choice, a chiropractic healthcare practice specializing in addiction recovery. He is a Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Holistic Health Practitioner in Integrative Nutrition, Western Herbalism and Ayurveda. He is currently a developing partner for BE SERENE, an addiction recovery toolkit app based in yogic principles, and a new faculty member at AUM Home Shala.
