How can you breathe more efficiently and effectively, and how can changing your breathing pattern change your life? Find out in a weekend workshop that explores yoga for the respiratory system, including the anatomy and mechanics of the respiratory system, and offers yoga practices to enhance respiratory function and improve quality of life.

For yoga teachers, the specialty certification teaches tools to support patients from diagnosis through treatment and post-treatment in the hospital setting and deepen their understanding of the principles and practices of yoga and how they apply to the respiratory system. Topics covered include analysis of the breath through the lens of yoga; chair yoga for respiratory conditions; blending Western and Eastern approaches to respiratory health; working with hospitals and clinics; and supporting patients to improve quality of life and be involved in their own healing process.

We will also cover:

  • The definition of respiration
  • The anatomy and functioning of the respiratory system
  • The physiology of normal breathing vs. poor breathing
  • Respiratory diseases and signs of dysfunction in the respiratory system
  • Methodology for pulmonary evaluation
  • Yoga therapy strategies for improving the functioning of the respiratory system.
