The Therapeutic Benefits of Yoga for Feet and Gait, January 25–26, 2020

with Osvaldo “Ozzie” Perez and Melinda Atkins

Saturday, 2:30 pm–5:30 pm, and Sunday, 8:30 am–5:30 pm

This training has been designated by the International Association of Yoga Therapists as an Approved Professional Development course.

This course is worth 17 hours of Continuing Education Requirements (12 contact hours and 5 distance learning hours) for RYT certification with Yoga Alliance.

Utilizing research in biomechanics, expert evaluation, and best treatment options, this course includes lab and practical application time.

This two-day course covers the anatomy of the foot and ankle, the biomechanics of human gait, and the impact on the lower extremity chain. Students learn to identify and address root causes of foot pathologies through exercises including warm-ups, asana/krama, myofascial release techniques with props, and shoe recommendations. Students explore specific pathologies and corrections, from advanced analysis to technique modification, including common injuries, form and strength exercises, and cadence manipulation.

To conclude the course, each student will create and implement a foot/ankle/gait protocol with the intent of pain relief through better body mechanics, achieved through an individual program for a specific foot pathology designed to improve posture, balance, and functional movement.
