Melinda Atkins, MEd, MsC, E-RYT 500, C-IAYT, is the founding director of AUM hOMe Shala, offering 200- and 500-hour Yoga Alliance–registered yoga teacher trainings and a clinical yoga therapist certification program accredited by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. In 2021, Melinda graduated from the Master of Science program in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She completed her 500-hour certification at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, received her yoga therapy certification at Loyola Marymount University, holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Florida, and became certified in the MELT Method® in 2012. A professional-level yoga teacher (E-RYT 500) with more than 7,500 hours of documented yoga teaching experience, Melinda completed 200 hours of preliminary work in Astanga Yoga before receiving a 500-hour yoga teacher training certification from Kripalu. She was one of the first in Florida to be certified as a yoga therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists through their grandfathering process, documenting 2,100 hours of yoga therapy experience. In 2021, she drew on her expertise to contribute a chapter to Yoga Therapy Foundations, Tools, and Practice: A Comprehensive Textbook. Melinda calls on her background in education, yoga, and yoga therapy to create programs for hospitals, universities, and schools (K–12), and conducts and supervises free community yoga programs for Parkinson’s, dementia, and other conditions.
